Inspired Nonprofit Leadership

Feb 10, 2022

My guest today is Theresa Cariño. Theresa is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Salud y Cariño, a local non-profit whose programs inspire girls to be confident, resilient, and healthy in all ways.  This includes their social-emotional well-being, physical development, power over their own bodies, and the resources to make healthy and informed decisions in middle school and beyond.

Theresa is involved in various community organizations, including the Commission on Justice & Gender, the Santa Cruz Women’s Commission, United Way’s Women in Philanthropy, Monarch Services, the Live Oak Work Group for Racial Justice and Positive Discipline Community Resources. She has a Master’s degree in Multicultural Education and is a former high school administrator, teacher, and public health educator.

Along with her work with Salud y Cariño, Theresa works in public health serving tribes and tribal organizations throughout the country with an Indigenous-led organization – Red Star International, and prior to that was the principal of a charter high school for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in Tucson AZ. Her 20 years of work in educational leadership and public health services as a foundation for her ongoing work in this community. When she is not out doing the work she loves, Theresa enjoys walking, dancing, reading, learning new skills, and spending time with her family.

Here’s what to expect during the episode:
