Inspired Nonprofit Leadership

May 6, 2021

Today’s guest, Dr. Jean Latting, is President of Leading Consciously, LLC, and Professor Emerita at the Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW), University of Houston.

Dr. Latting received her master’s degree from Columbia University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina. She coauthored Reframing Change: How to Deal with Workplace Dynamics, Influence Others, and Bring People Together to Initiate Positive Change.

As a consultant, researcher, and educator, Jean focuses on leadership in multicultural and diverse organizations. Through her organization, Leading Consciously, Jean helps individuals and organizations create resilient, sustainable, multicultural, and diverse settings.

Here’s what to expect during the episode:

  • Recognizing that dealing with sensitive topics is awkward, and that this uneasy feeling is normal.
  • The importance of the willingness to make mistakes and being open to ask.
  • Considering managing our relationships and doing business as one thing.
  • Addressing serious instances of racial discrimination or other similar issues. Sometimes, it may be up to the “victim” to negotiate for the right thing.
